Passion, culture, partage, France, Portugal, histoire, art contemporain, transmission

Passion, culture, sharing, France, Portugal, history, contemporary art, transmission In June 2019, I met Fernando Ribeiro, one of the co-curators of the exhibition « Do lugar onde estou já fui embora » at the Galeria Liminare, in Lumiar. In this torn world, we shared the cultural opportunity between France and Portugal, the French and the Portuguese, to revive a past steeped in history, in particular thanks to the Luso-French Art Association (ALFA), facing Trump’s Brexit and America. This meeting, one of the triggers to think about the column Between Us, because in nothing I did not want to advance ideas which were mine in a country of which in fact I know little. 2020 was the time to meet us, Entre Nous, at La Junqueira Residency in Belém. Three people enthusiastic about erasing borders, communities, in the service of culture.

Fernando Ribeiro, an “Alfacinha de gema” A word that people use for Lisbon natives, Fernando has lived his almost 50 years of life in Lisbon including more than 20 years in the world of art and artists, between Lisbon and Porto, through Design , theater, and visual arts as producer and exhibition curator. Always passionate about the creativity of artists, as well as questions arising from contemporaneity, whether political, social, or spiritual, Fernando Ribeiro made culture not only his job, but also an important part of his personal and daily life, of his evenings and trips, of his projects parallel to his work at the EDP Foundation. A passion shared with Jean-Michel Albert, as part of ALFA – Association Luso-Française d’Art, a project born between Lisbon and Tours. They are responsible for the annual programming and curating of the association’s exhibitions in Portugal and France (French-speaking artists in Portugal and Portuguese-speaking artists in France).

Catherine Puissant, Jean-Michel Albert, Anne-Kim Ledda

Sharing French culture and Portuguese culture, it is indeed the passion of Jean-Michel Albert, one of ALFA’s mentors. In 1991, teacher and director of a French school in Casamance (Senegal), Jean-Michel Albert mounted his first exhibition with French and African artists to fight against routine. « Since then I have never been bored again » he tells us laughing. After a post in Helsinki (Finland) and a visit to France, Jean-Michel Albert arrived in Lisbon in 2014. In 2017, he met Fernando and together created ALFA. After contacting four friends in France who immediately approved of this idea and joined the project, ALFA was born in March 2019. The first exhibition dates from July 2019: a retrospective of Yolande Tanchou, French artist, at the SNBA in Lisbon (sculptures, paintings and collages).
For the two programmers and curators of ALFA, life rolls above all between art and creativity, driven by the great talent of contemporary visual artists which at the same time immerses us in dreams of beauty, materials and colors, but above all wake us up and alert us to a society in crisis and a world in danger.
So, ALFA-Association Luso-Française d’Art is made up of a small but very dynamic team, with many great friends who have spontaneously agreed to collaborate: The pole in Tours is made up of Catherine Puissant (president), Anne -Kim Ledda (secretary and communication) and Hervé Landuré (treasurer); and, in Lisbon, Jean-Michel Albert and Fernando Ribeiro (curator and programming).
ALFA 2020 programming has been postponed (due to COVID-19):
Initially in Lisbon, Thursday 21 May: Opening of the exhibition “Intrusion” collage by Aube Breton Elléouêt at the bookshop-gallery “Tinta nos nervos”, rua da Esperança 39. Exhibition until 18.07.20. Postponed to a later date.
– Initially in Touraine, Thursday, July 30, opening of the Ana Lima-Netto exhibition at the château de Tours. Exhibition until 11.10.20. Postponed to the same dates in 2021.

La Junqueira Residency, résidence d’artistes

@ouazzanicarrier, @stephanemulliez, @kleinmanon

Designed and founded by a passionate artist, La Junqueira artists residency is a place for the production, dissemination and promotion of art. A huge leitmotif, favoring plastic expression through the immersion of Portuguese and international artists in the (re) discovery and enhancement of the city of Lisbon in all its aspects: cultural, architectural, historical or sociological.
The Residence is also aimed at curators wishing to stay in Lisbon as part of their research and productions related to the city.
Marie Ouazzani & Nicolas Carrier will be the residents of the 5th session from March 2 to May 24, 2020.
Since 2015, they have lived and worked together in Paris. Graduates in visual arts and cinema, they also followed the Offshore program in Shanghai and participated in numerous residencies in France, Jordan and East Asia. During their stay at La Junqueira artists residency, they will continue their research around the migration of plants in the specific context and climate of Lisbon. Between scientific documents, accounts of the « New World » expeditions and current commercial offers, their exhibition will offer climatic fiction in the form of a new video and an infusion installation. Taking climate change as a framework, it will point to the importance of vegetation in urban areas and will invent possible changes in their trajectories.
Opening : Wednesday September 9, 2020 the vernissage « Viagem Pára-Sol » will take place. The event will include plant teas that the artists picked while they were confined to Belém and around the Junqueira.

M.A.A.T 2020

A voir absolument.

During this inauguration, I discovered the very interesting exhibitions CURRENTS, BEELINE, MEMOVOLTS and THE PEEPSHOW associated with the top signage installation covid-19, and the soundscape of Cláudia Martinho. I loved the effects of transparency, opacity, a mix of soothing colors, the materials, the coordination of the furniture in order to harmonize the two exhibitions in this magical setting; not to mention the surroundings between water, perspectives and vegetation. Congratulations to the whole team and its new director Beatrice Leanza.

Belém Listening to visitors, the guides talk about spending half a day in Belém, I agree if you just want to discover the Tagus between LX Factory and the Centro Cultural de Belém, otherwise formidable shortcut! Belém is one of the densest and most charismatic districts of Lisbon, with 2km of panoramas and palaces overlooking the Tagus, a dozen museums more beautiful than each other, a dynamic cultural center and as many contemporary initiatives that revolve around botanical gardens …
Personally, I would encourage you to spend a long weekend there, to prepare your stay by locating yourself in this district with the Adeline A Lisbonne application, and thus establish your preferences, and probably come back to it. Definitely, I just dropped my bags there!
